Question by Austyn: What are some Japanese Holiday greetings?
Just like the header/title, I’m curious what some of the Japanese holiday greetings are. In particular: Christmas, New Year, and Birthday. If you know any other holiday greetings (whether they be American traditional holidays, or Japanese) I’d be glad to hear them. Thanks =)

it can seem strange, but for “merry christmas” they actually say “melly chlistmas”!

Happy New Year = akemashite omedetou gozaimasu
Happy Birthday = otanjyoubi omedetou gozaimasu
Congratulations (general) = omedetou gozaimasu (they might just cut it down to omedetou)
Japanese have adopted lots of foreign words, especially English. Many would say “Happy Birthday” or “Merry Christmas”, but pronounced with a Japanese accent of course. If you’re not familiar with how Japanese Japanify foreign words, well it probably won’t sound like the original word at all to you. (maybe just happy and merry)
